A new kid in town.... Senecio Angel Wings

Senecio Angel Wings

It’s not very often a new annual plant comes on the scene but there’s a new one for 2018 that is pretty cool. Senecio Angel Wings has bold silver leaves that are soft to the touch.  ‘Angel Wings’ may be new to the garden scene but Senecio plants in general have been around for a while.  Senecio is a genius that houses thousands of plants.  Senecio cineraria, commonly known as Dusty Miller, is a similar annual to Senecio Angel Wings.

Senecio Angel Wings is officially considered a tender perennial, hardiness zones 8-10, many people just consider that an annual. So for folks in zones 8-11, feel free to plant and leave out in the garden or containers.  Folks in hardiness zones 7 and below, it’s a tender perennial, you may be able to overwinter with extra protection in zone 7 or possibly bring into a cool, dark place that does not freeze, like a garage to put it into dormancy and bring back out in the spring.

Senecio Angel Wings is easy to grow. It is drought tolerant by nature so make sure you let this plant dry down between waterings.  Because it is drought tolerant, Senecio Angel Wings is a great plant for container gardening.  It also does well in beds and borders.

Plant in full sun for best performance. Senecio Angel Wings grows 10-12 inches high and wide.  So if you are looking for something new, unique, and something your neighbors don’t have but won’t stop talking about, then definitely give Senecio Angel Wings a try.

Why Isn't My Succulent Colorful
Why Isn't My Succulent Colorful

The thing about succulents is they are, well I like to compare them to mood rings.  They change their colors based on how happy they are.  When they are happiest, they tend to exhibit their best self, their best colors.  So to get those blue or red tints make sure you are giving your succulent exactly what it wants.
