Spigelia marilandica - Indian Pink Plant
A beautiful native perennial, Indian Pinks, are a lovely woodland plant. The dark green foliage is topped with unique red and yellow flowers. Tubular red flowers with yellow tips bloom in late spring to early summer. This plant is a favorite among hummingbirds and other pollinators but sadly it is not planted in many gardens because many garden centers do not grow this perennial. One of the best features about Indian Pinks is that this plant is very forgiving when it comes to soil moisture. Once established this plant can take very moist to very dry soils, making it a great garden performer. Plant in full sun to part shade for best perfomance. Spigelia grows 12 inches in width and 20-24 inches in height. Hardiness zones 5-9.
